Welcome to my blog

This is something I should have created long ago. So I’m told. Every writer needs a blog. Therefore, I need a blog. That way we can connect with our readers, supporters, friends, and others. Who these ‘others’ are is not clear. But I am looking forward to the journey. So, from time to time, I will post articles in here which I hope to some of you, may be of interest.

A couple of years ago I launched my first book. It is called Running Dead. It was a quiet launch, because I had no idea how to launch a book. I had no online presence. I didn’t Tweet or Facebook prior to the launch, and I had no following outside of social media either. I self-published the book, meaning I employed a publisher to do it all for me.

That was a very good experience, and I should publicly thank my publisher, Ginger Marks from DocUmeant Publishing (www.documeantpublishing.com), here. Ginger was wonderful to work with, and created a very professional end result.

The thing which has baffled me most, since publishing, is marketing the book. I now realise it should have baffled me before I published. It remains a source of mystery, but thankfully new resources for authors are appearing much more regularly. Gradually I am piecing it together, but I suspect it will be a long haul. Perhaps I will visit the area of book marketing in a later post – hopefully when I have more success to share with you.

So to begin the blog, I thought I would write a little about some of the characters from Running Dead. They are, of course, not real. But my past business life brought me into contact with an array very interesting deals, and individuals of similar colour. I have used some of them, to create some of these characters.

Thank you for reading.

Writing a book is like telling a joke and having to wait 2 years to know whether or not it was funny. ~ Alain de Botton
